If you are looking to Buy a Quad Bike, whether it be a Road legal quad an Offroad quad or even a 50cc Kids quad, we have listed below some tips and ideas which gives an insight into what to look for. Even though a large number of Quad Bikes are fitted with a speedometer and mileage counter, many of the off road machines do not have them. This can lead to a number of false claims on usage and even worse total untruths to put it mildly.
All that aside possibly the worst situation arises because when you need a spare part you cannot find anyone that has even heard of the quad let alone has parts on the shelf.
Over here in the UK the leading quad importer of Quad bikes has around 40% of the quad market, that by itself is good news for the purchaser of that particular brand. Spares are easy to get and therefore the quad can be supported for many years to come.
Over the past five years we have seen many suppliers leave the selling arena taking the part supply side of the business with them, this leaves 100s if not 1,000s of quads that are being scrapped for the want of a part. Merlins Promotions are able to support all the Quad bikes they sell and would never display any quads if spares were unavailable.
Important rules to take into consideration before purchasing any type of Quad
Rule 1 Make sure you can get any spares you may need, before you part with your money.
Rule 2 Don't buy from an auction unless you know the quad is supported elsewhere for spares.
Rule 3 Make sure, if you are buying new, that you have a 3, 6,12 or 24 months warranty on parts.
Rule 4 Don't buy from a newspaper advert unless the quad is a well recognised brand.
Rule 5 Never purchase a new quad without any of the proper documentation, it could have been stolen and someone may come knocking on your door to fetch it back.
Rule 6 If you purchase new for self registration, make sure the COC, certificate of conformity relates to the Road legal quad bike you have and all the duties have been paid, this is in the form of a separate document.
Rule 7 If the Quad bike is already registered make sure there are no outstanding payments registered against the quad (HPI) or that it is not registered with the DVLA as stolen or written off.
Rule 8 Always buy from a recognised dealer, that supplies a well recognised range, if at all possible and of course supports it with spares.
Remember: If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is!
